Abandoned City (Ukraine). On April 26, 1986, at 01:23 local time, an explosion occurred 3 km away from a city with a population of 47,000 people. The reactor accident was kept secret for the first 36 hours, and nobody in the city knew about it. However, during this time, the radiation levels increased tens of thousands of times above normal. The evacuation was only declared 36 hours after the accident. The residents were told that the evacuation was temporary and would last only a few days. They were advised to take only their personal documents with them and leave behind their personal belongings and pets. After the evacuation, they never returned home. According to some estimates, this catastrophe significantly surpasses the atomic bombing of Hiroshima in terms of the number of affected individuals. At present, the city is completely looted. Marauders have stolen all contaminated valuable items and metals, 2019
